YOU MUST BE OVER 18 TO ENTER ANY CLUB IN IBIZA
When things do change on the club scene, they change with a vengeance. In 2006 most of the gay related parties - relocated to SPACE in Playa Den Bossa. Since then there has been a considerable number of soft toys flying across the island, as prams have quickly emptied. 2007 saw MANUMISSION move mid season to Amnesia from its long term home at Privilege and then close (for good?) in 2008
LA TROYA after three summers in SPACE moved back to AMNESIA. - MATINEE have also decamped to Amnesia, leaving the only party at space with any real standing - Carl Cox.
New at Privilege is FACE OF IBIZA - on THURSDAY NIGHTS featuring baby Marcelo and DJ Oliver - this with La Troya has the best music and atmosphere of any party in Ibiza.
Gay visitors to Ibiza tend to fall into two categories, you are either an ardent clubber, that needs to be out and seen at the right place at the right time, that has been saving up holidays, cash and energy for the opening of Ibiza's party season, or, you have never been anywhere near a night club any more challenging than Anfora.
Either way completely missing out on the Ibiza club scene would be an unholy disgrace as Ibiza does have some of the best, biggest and wildest clubs in the world, hitting the hard core clubbers addiction head on...It also attracts some of the biggest dj's, preposterous egos, and a rather large collection of toys for throwing out of the occasional oversized pram.
All in all, the mad mix that descends on Ibiza every summer produces one amazing night life, that spreads out from the clubs into the streets for the nightly promotional processions.
The venues are reasonably static, but some do, bizarrely, open for a year, close for a couple of years, then reopen again, and then continue to repeat the whole cycle. The 'parties' are a different thing, and the newer the party the more likely it is to jump around venues before becoming a regular fixture or alternatively disappearing from the island completely.
What you make of the club scene is totally individual, being with the right friends and on the the right planet, can make or break a night as much as feeling that you have being seen in the right place at the right time which for some may be so necessary that the idea of missing a single minute could cause them to be physically sick.
2008 saw HEAVEN IBIZA fail to re-open, BABYLON to all intents and purposes disappear, Anfora take on intermittant opening policy early season, and SCANDAL re-open - In Playa Den Bossa, bearing NO resemblance to the scandal that did well at El Divino -A Big Dissapointment, and SOAP CLUB close.
One good piece of news is that most clubs appeared to cut their entry prices and occasionally, if you tried very hard, you could just about avoid being given a free entry wrist band for one party or another.
If you still do not think a night out at one of the big parties is for you, take your mother to La Troya and try to keep up!
The venues include PRIVILEGE, AMNESIA, EL DIVINO, PACHA, SPACE ANFORA - there are many more.
The best source of current 'what's on' information are the daily posters displayed around every square inch of the islands bars and shops, lamp-posts and even the side of an occasional pram....
More information on the island's parties can be found by clicking on PARTIES.
