I like to think of El Divino as the best and most stunning club in Ibiza. I have never been, but it is a good thought.
El Divino is still open contrary to continued rumours that it is closing to make way for harbour terminal facilities - In fact SCANDAL the Sunday night Gay Party is relocating here from the ill-fated Babylon Summer 2007.
A quick note on the restaurant - as I have just spent 140 euros on a joke of a night out.
The restaurant terrace has a great view - the best of Ibiza Town, but, no air flow/fans, confused staff, slow service, vast prices, very average food, a limited menu (4 mains but 20(?) starters) overall an absolutely dreadful disappointment. We were offered a return complimentary meal, as an apology, but I am not intending wasting the time....
Back to the club, I asked for a review: Many thanks to steve.curley@ntlworld.com for the following:
A visit to Miss Moneypennys at El Divino was one of the highlights of my last holiday. Catching the boat from the port in the old town was an experience in itself, it's very small and for some reason we were sitting with a group of old Spanish ladies (the boat dropped them off somewhere else before El Divino - thank god), all this with Petula Clark playing on the boats radio!
We arrived by 11pm, which is far too early to enter a club in Ibiza, not being ones to whine, we sat on the outside terrace drinking beers that cost about the same as a small Spanish village. By 2am the club was comfortably full of a very European crowd, and not as pretentious as you would expect. In fact we met loads of great people.
There didn't seem to be too many gay guys there that evening, apart from the drag queens and freak dancers-one of which would not leave my mate alone all night (free, sadistic amusement for all). The club was very gay friendly and a welcome break from the 'gay ghetto'.
By 6am, Danny Rampling was playing the best set I have ever heard, with the daylight shining through the windows and a fantastic view of the old town across the port we found ourselves dancing on the stage to U2's 'beautiful day' (Rampling style). One of those unforgettable moments. Afterwards we ran out of the club, stripped off and cooled off in the sea (much to the amusement/disgust of the elderly Spanish folks who were on their way to get breakfast).
A nearby bar provided our breakfast of fresh croissants and a beer before we headed to the beach.
