In the 1980s, Amnesia gave birth to what eventually became known as the Balearic Beat (courtesy of the then resident DJ Alfredo). Amnesia grew to become one of the most consistently successful of all the clubs in Ibiza, and was also home to the island's best gay party 'La Troya Asiesian'. Unfortunatly the La Troya team moved to SPACE in 2006, with the name HOME OF LA TROYA IBIZA.
The name of the old party, 'La Troya Asesina' was still used by AMNESIA in 2006 until the end of August, when they appeared to change to 'La Troya Amnesia'. just to keep things even more interesting for all you bewildered punters, Amnesia ended their La troya party, and now (2009) the real LA TROYA is moving back.
Midway between Ibiza Town and San Antonio and across the road from Privilege, Amnesia looks like a former garden centre (it does look like a B&Q from the outside) turned superclub. The club has, however, progressed a long way from its domestic roots.
There are two dance areas in Amnesia: the Main Room, which plays host to the biggest draw DJs, usually at the headlining club (when two are sharing the venue), and always the foam party; and the smaller back room, or "Terrace", home to some very large trees. Even though it is bigger than Brighton Pavilion the Terrace still maintains an intimate feel.
Integral to Amnesia's success and atmosphere are the many 'talented' dancers, who take to the podiums night after night.
Amnesia is home to many highly successful parties, notably superclubs Cream and Gatecrasher, Germany's Cocoon Club, and again, La Troya.
Amnesia runs a bus from Ibiza town every 20 minutes to the club 11pm to 3am and from the Club to Ibiza town 6am to 8am. It is free if you have a club entry ticket. More information check out the club's web site.
The last time I tried to visit in 2009, the enty to the club was cahotic, boardering on a shambles, with guests wating to pay being ignored while those with free entry and free drinks tickets, being let in - I gave up and walked back to town -there were no taxis...

Wednesday Night Thursday Morning with La Troya Asesina
Usually scheduled for Wednesdays, the foam usually starts sometime between 5am and 6am. But, even with the people-drying machine, it isn't half as much fun when reality hits and you can't get a taxi to take you home, and your friends are being a bit iffy about giving you a lift.
