Bars

BARS

Gay bars in Ibiza change hands, appear and disappear and occasionally reappear in a different location with the kind of flourish that is generally reserved by a closet in a dark room. The intention was to update these pages as changes happen, (give or take a month or so, dependent on the number of changes, hangovers and visiting relatives) - It does tend to take longer. If you have news of any changes please get in touch and let us know.

The bar scene is going through a bit of a shake up, with new bars and new owners making an effort to attract new visitors, not just survive on those that were first attracted ten to fifteen years ago.

The east end of the Virgin, has lost a few long standing watering holes, including Capricho, Foc I Fum, Teatro, GC Bar and Galleria. But it has gained MAD BAR, and Bar 22.

Most gay and gay friendly bars in Ibiza offer something very similar: A combination of terraces, barmen and a Mediterranean atmosphere, generously augmented by the stunning backdrop provided by the Dalt Vila.

Bars listed in this section have been split into four areas: EAST and WEST end of Calle de La Virgen, the Dalt Vila and Figueretes, and a section covering the rest of the island, as and when it happens.

If you are travelling to Ibiza for the first time print out the gay map before you come, it will give you a good idea of the restaurants, bars, hotels and coffee bars and their location.

If you enjoy your own company, or are going with a gaggle of mates, go out where and when you feel like it. You can just about get trashed in a different bar every night.

If you are seriously into your clubbing, you may not venture into the bars, outside of the Cheri/Dome, Angelo's/Soap area - but you should, there are some great intimate bars to enjoy a drink. A night out on the town in Ibiza is late starting and can last twenty-four hours. Most bars start to get busy around 11pm, and many stay full past 3am. It is not unusual to be still eating in a restaurant at midnight (you may well need the energy in the early hours of the morning). Nor is it unusual to arrive back home without a tan.

Almost all of the staff in Ibiza are friendly and love to get to know the punters (they like a good shag too, but not quite as much as a free meal). There are almost always free tickets available for most clubs, and these are often passed on to this weeks 'mates' so ask early and don't forget a bribe/tip. You will be surprised at the contacts most bar staff have for those evening extras.

The bars tend to play the weirdest music, (no one has ever heard it before, it to this year's 'Ibiza Anthems' (before the clubs have even opened for the season - In case you are wondering, there is a theory that DJ's take bribes to play the stuff the record companies want. I can not see it happening my-self).

If you are going to Ibiza in high season, you are likely to sit/stand/shuffle and get soaked with drink, outside on the terraces. During the mid-low season, explore some of the excellent interiors and get to know the staff and owners.

As many of youkeep telling me drinks are cheaper out of Ibiza town - making Figueretes a popular place to start a night out, and some of the holiday hotels up to 50% cheaper. Understanding basic supply and demand is not required to open a bar in Ibiza - but possibly to keep the business open.

On average expect to pay €8 for a long drink in a bar.

Finally, in case you begin to wonder, as only existing bars will be given new licenses,we do not remove pages for bars that have closed immediately, as there is 100% chance that they will re-open shortly (sometimes even with a different name).
