The Dalt Vila is either:
'One of the most intimate and picturesque walled towns in Western Europe'.
Or, 'A bloody nightmare in sling-backs, when you are off your tits and it is sodding raining'.
It is probably both.
The entrance to the town is stunning. If you do have to walk uphill for 200 metres to get to a gay club, this has to be the most amazing place to do it. Once you have taken all the pictures that you want on the way up, you can jump in everyone else's.
'The Vila' provides a fabulous location for taking it easy, enjoying a drink, the scenery and the atmosphere. BAR RED, located at the very top of "Sa
Carrossa", closed at the end of 2005, (no-one knows what trouble it has seen...whoops...sorry.) but has just re-opened for 2006 as RED LOUNGE, again providing a perfect sheltered setting to while away the evening hours, on the way to one of the busiest and most blatant cruising grounds in Europe, and the new LA MURALLA, which has now been re-fit and opened as the island's cruise bar, an unexpected change to the Dalt Vila scene.
There are a fabulous selection of restaurants; ANFORA (the island's only gay night-club); as well as some of the most 'individual' and gay-friendly hotels and apartments (NAVILA).
The Crisco and Sa Gaviota bars closed some years ago - although Sa Gaviota has been refurbished but shows little sign of re-opening anytime soon...
Exploring Dalt Vila by day and by night is a must.
